star wars [120X140]

Some artists work years to lay their ‘creative egg’ which the day after becomes subject of a star war: with a review just one critic is able to define in this mediatised world the future of the newly born (this judgement is depicted in this work through the ‘star-rating’ on the bench). Has the critic problems with the boss, had bad sex… and the starry sky may get scrambled.

But assume the rating would be given through a jury, then the ‘egg’ needs to please everybody… it needs to please the greatest common devisor… suddenly the egg lays on the highway to hell : the highway to populism

f*ck the paparzzi in Paris [120X140]

The three f*ck the Paparazzi works are showing a lady seconds before being photographed by a paparazzi. This image is used to question the unlimited voyeurism in our society. What added value is for instance bringing the neighbor-interview abused to picture a family-tragedy in the commercially colored TV-news. Why is the private live of those that earn there living through the media suddenly considered as public property… But indeed sometimes this voyeurism is consciously cultivated by the exhibitionism of some in their search for recognition and fame.

March 2015 : some more food for thought:

a young Germanwings pilot takes 149 people into his suiciadal crash ... but what the f*ck are all those journalist doing at his parents home...

the Holy Trinity rules the world [200X100]

Three monitors represent in the Holy Trinity rules the world three superpowers that rule our society: TV , www and ppt. The first screen is that of a TV, the contemporary Coliseum which offers the crowed their entertained and from its own ‘reality’. The second PC-monitor stands for the world wide web, facilitating our society from an economical super highway; and through the social media from the world’s largest bar; the largest entertainment centre, etc… The last PC-monitor represents the ppt – the Power point presentation - ruling through its domination in each boardroom the world’s economy.

The lady raises through here partially Napoleonic pose the question if women are not a fourth all-overarching power; but at the same time – by grasping the breast – a middle finger is raised to this secular power play. Because fragile is the online world free to be high-jacked by hackers; fake are numerous virtual friends; deceiving the gap between Powerpoint and reality. Commercially driven is the media-world.

working class hero [160X120]

Working class hero is the brand of shoes the lady is wearing. The working class hero can join the ride in the luxury limousine; enjoy the luxury our society has to offer. But once the high society would step into shit when leaving the car, her feet remain – in first instance - clean, the working class hero on the contrary is paying the price. The bank-crisis is proving once more the reality of this scenery.

ceo [120X140]

Coaching and giving direction; or letting loose and allow to what we set free to develop itself to something one could never imagine… and when do we need to support what we did set free just once more to avoid it derails…

That's we what we deal with : as a parent, as a xxx, as a ceo… and that’s why the bra is used as a metaphor for the ceo, a metaphor of this theme.

la penseuse [120X140]

La penseuse is painted with Rodin’s Le penseur in mind. La penseuse depicts in a figurative way the ‘file rouge’ in the works : the questioning of the multiple nature of themes that rule our society: our ecomonical, social and cultural environment; our identity, personal relations and emotions...

meBrand [160X120]

Nespresso or Illy, Coca or Pepsi, Trentemøller or Soul Coughing, Fiat 500 or Mini ... what brand do you go for. meBrand focuses on the impact we have as a person "Every breath we take, every move we make"; the brand we reflect unconsciously through our identity or the brand we consciously cultivate.

empire of senses [120x160]

Our senses, the gateway to our empire of emotions, from black to white over multiple shades of grey. And in which extend do we master our senses, in which extend do they translate reality.

infinite design [160X120]

Infinite design is depicting the balance between on one end the fantastic and unlimited possibilities available when designing and at the other end the huge challenge this may bring. The Campbell soup can brought the inspiration for this theme, but the Camper shoe – a re-invention of the classical shoe model – is used to put this theme on canvas.

memories [120X160]

Imprisoned in a slice of selicium, the memory card of our PC or smartphone… there are our memories our behaviour our creative creations. Our memory is one of the drivers that defines our identity and we are more and more using external memory aid. Are we about to outsource our identity? And how reliable is our outsource partner? How solid our identity?
